Ruby Esther (Frankenstein) Tjarks, of Redfield, SD, passed away April 13, 2016 at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield.

Her funeral will be Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eastern Star Chapel in Redfield. Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate. Burial will be in the Rockham Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Eastern Star Home Chapel. The family will be present during this time to accept condolences. Arrangements are entrusted to Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield.

Ruby Esther (Frankenstein) Tjarks was born October 30, 1926 in Spink County to Frank and Minnie (Buchholz) Frankenstein. After her mother died in 1928, Ruby lived with her Aunt and Uncle Edwin and Sarah Frankenstein at Crandon, South Dakota. Ruby graduated from Redfield High School in 1945. She worked at the National Tea Grocery and several other businesses in Redfield.

Ruby married Ray Tjarks on September 13, 1970 at the Redfield United Methodist Church. They lived on the Tjarks family farm near Zell until moving to Redfield in 1990.

Ruby enjoyed quilting, gardening, music and attending church activities. She was a member of the Redfield United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Assembly of South Dakota.

Ruby is survived by one cousin, Mabel Frankenstein, Bloomington, MN; one niece, Geneva Hurlbut, Aberdeen, SD; and nephew Russ Woodson and family, Glen Avon, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2008; one brother, August; two sisters: Louise Hurlbut and Dorothy Frankenstein; and one niece, Georgia (Hurlbut) Woodson.
