Ruth B. Anderson, 99, of Redfield, SD passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 15, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eastern Star Home Chapel in Redfield. Reverend Tammy Toepke-Floyd will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. (www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com)

Ruth was born July 1, 1917 in rural Spink County near Tulare to Carl and Anna (Otto) Anderson. Her mother passed away in 1933 at a young age. Ruth stayed out of school for one year to help her father care for her two younger sisters.

Ruth attended Lake Township County School. She graduated from Redfield High School in 1937. She continued her education for one year at the Business College in Aberdeen, SD.

Ruth worked for Rural Credit Brown County before beginning work at the Internal Revenue Service in Aberdeen in 1951. She retired in 1982 to move back to Redfield to care for her aging father.

Ruth moved into an apartment at Eastern Star in 2008. When Ruth needed more care, she moved to a room in the front at Eastern Star. She was very grateful for the care and friendship of the staff there.

The main hobby Ruth had over the years was playing BINGO. Ruth also enjoyed signing up for drawings and she was often times very lucky.

Ruth was a member of the United Church of Christ and was an Eastern Star member.

Ruth is survived by nieces and nephews and their families: Judy Bohlen of Rochester, MN; Tedd (LuAnn) Gilkison of Kasson, MN; Timm Gilkison of Granite Canyon, WY; Peggy (Ron) Wencl of Sioux Falls, SD; Keith (Linda) Schroeder of Redfield, SD; and Karla (Tim) Pazour of Pukwana, SD.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters: Dorothy (Clyle) Gilkison and Velda (Walter) Schroeder; and one niece, Carol (John) Lawson.
