Sandra Marsha (Knecht) Thornburg, 67, of Redfield, SD, passed away on April 12, 2026, at Avantara Nursing Home in Redfield, SD.

Sandra was born on August 11, 1958, in Gackle, ND, to Albert and Amanda (Stuckle) Knecht. Sandra worked as a Direct Support Professional for the South Dakota Developmental Center for over 20 years.

Sandra was known for her love of gardening, and quilting. She was very active in her church, doing volunteer work and being part of the quilting circle.

Sandra is survived by her son James (Elizabeth) Thornburg of Canistota, SD; and three grandchildren, Kadence, of Seattle, WA, Hannah of Bozeman, MT and Sarah of Canistota, SD; brothers Larry (Ann), of Gackle, ND, Stan (Judy), of Lake Park, MN, Marvin (Doris) of, Minto, ND, and sister Diana of Fargo, ND.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Amanda Knecht, and brother, Wesley Knecht.

A family-hosted Celebration of Life for Sandy will be held at 3:00 PM on April 24, 2026, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redfield.
