Shirley Ann Fuss was born on May 21, 1929, in Redfield, SD, to LeVester M. and Anna Marie (Flemmer) Graves. She grew up in Redfield and attended Redfield School. She was married for 18 years to Walter Welk, and from this union, one daughter, Kathryn (Welk) Hartman, was born.

Shirley was married to Jerald J. Fuss on May 25, 1990, in Redfield, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where she had been a member ever since. Jerald and Shirley were married for 24 years.

Shirley was a waitress and cook for many years when her parents ran The Nook and Phillips 66 Café. She baked all the pies, caramel rolls and donuts for the customers.

Shirley worked for the State of South Dakota at the Developmental Center for 23 years and retired 1990.

Shirley loved quilting and made many, many beautiful quilts for many friends and relatives and all her nieces and nephews. When the depot featured quilts a few weeks ago, Shirley was so pleased to find one of her quilts on display. Shirley spent many hours quilting at the Golden Days Senior Center where she also held many different offices. She had also been very active for many years at the senior center and helped by baking and working at the many money raising events and by making quilts to be sold for money makers. Shirley always found good treasures at rummage sales.

Shirley was an avid strudel maker and loved to make them and loved to eat them. We can't forget oyster stew; both the Golden Living Center and Eastern Star graciously fixed stew for her many times.

Shirley especially loved camping and fishing and she and Jerald had a number of campers for many years. Shirley loved to go camping with her daughter and son-in-law in the Black Hills.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Robert) Hartman of Edgemont, SD; her sister, Jean Jankord of Redfield, SD; her brother-in-law, Robert (Francelle) Fuss; her sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Delt) Clark and Carol (Raymond) Fuss as well as many nieces and nephews and Richard (June) Anderson, a special family friend.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Jerald, on November 11, 2014; her two sisters: Doris Anderson and Doretta Witt; her sister-in-law Lorraine (Fuss-Ehrich) VanAlstyne and her brother-in-law, Raymond Fuss.

Family will be present during the visitation to accept condolences.
