Shirley Jean Otteson, 55, of Redfield, SD, died Monday, August 10, 2009 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD. Shirley donated her body to the University of South Dakota Medical School. There will be no services. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Shirley was born July 25, 1954 in Dallas, OR to Henry and Augusta (Fast) Kliewer. She graduated from Dallas High School in Dallas, OR in 1972. She attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, NE for one year. She pursued a modeling career until she became ill in 1979. Shirley married Kern Otteson on December 1, 1984 in Dallas. They lived in Salem, OR where Shirley owned a t-shirt silk screening business. They moved to Turton, SD in 1993, later to Doland, SD and she has been in the Golden Living Center since 2006.

She enjoyed sewing and arts and crafts.

Shirley is survived by Kern of Redfield; three brothers: Duane Kliewer of Lake Oswego, OR; Myron Kliewer of Dallas, OR and Phillip Kliewer of Atascadero, CA; and her friend and caregiver Kathy Garcia of Doland, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
