Marvin "Spud" Bebo, 72, of Redfield, SD, died Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. His funeral will be Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at First Congregational UCC Church in Redfield. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Visitation will be Friday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Spud was born August 20, 1939 in Conde, SD to Marvin "Chappy" and Grace (Peterson) Bebo. He grew up in the Brentford area and graduated from Brentford High School in 1958. Spud married Nancy Carol Zerbel in 1959 in Mellette, SD. They lived near Turton, until 1969, when they moved to Redfield. They owned and operated Redfield Livestock Auction with Gilbert and Zelda Lutter until 1977, when they sold to the Lutters. Spud was a well known cattle buyer, farmer and cattleman.
Spud enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their events. He was past president of South Dakota Quarter Horse Association and in 1991, was a judge at the World Livestock Auctioneering contest.
He was a member of the First Congregational UCC Church, Brentford Masonic Lodge and York Rite and American Quarter Horse Association.
Spud is survived by his wife, of fifty-two years, Carol; his children: Elaine (Russel) Jessen, Scott (Rachelle) Bebo, Bruce (Stacey) Bebo and Bonnie (Greg) Hansen all of Redfield, his grandchildren: Jaime (Matt) Mogen, Brett Jessen, Chad (Nicole) Jessen, Kayla Jessen, Nick (Lauretta) Bebo, Sarah Bebo, Vanessa Hansen, Derek (Tiffany) Hansen, Cooper Bebo, Cheyenne Bebo, Jacklyn Meyer and Stuart Meyer. He is also survived by his great grandchildren: Bailey Jessen, Aleah Bebo, Keagan Hansen, Priya Hansen, Gemma Hansen and Layla Hardie and two sisters: Marilyn (Brian) Ford of Huron, SD and Sylvia Bebo of Tea, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
