Stephen Ray Wood D.O., 67, died at 2:04 pm on Friday, February 21st, 2020, from complications related to esophageal cancer, at Largo Medical Center, in Largo, Florida, hand in hand with his family. A private family service will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield, South Dakota at a later date. Arrangements in South Dakota have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield. Stephen Ray Wood was born on October 15, 1952, in Redfield, South Dakota. He was a resident of Doland, South Dakota; Creve Coeur and St. Louis, Missouri; and currently Seminole, Florida. He worked as an Orthopedic Surgeon with Suncoast Orthopedics, in Seminole. He specialized in sports medicine since 1985. His fellowship was in the College of Surgeons in 1995. He was a graduate of Kirksville College and a fellow of the American Osteopathic Society. He was an excellent trumpet player, avid walker, book enthusiast, and enjoyed dancing to jazz music.
He is survived by his mother, Grace Eva Wood of Doland, SD; children: Stephanie Moore and Christopher Wood; son-in-law, James Moore; granddaughters: Lillian, Zoe, and Marley Moore; ex-wife, Diane Wood; brother and sister-in-law, Terry R. and Norma Wood; nephews and wives: Jeremy and Rebekah Wood; and Ryan and Abby Wood; along with one aunt and uncle, Onie and Robert Isenberg; and 17 cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Raymond Wood; brother Chris E. Wood; grandparents; aunts; uncles, and cousins.
Contributions in memory of Dr. Stephen R. Wood D.O. can be made to the American Cancer Society for research.
