Thelma Harms, 90, of Redfield, SD, died Friday, October 22, 2010 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Her funeral will be Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Redfield. Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Thelma was born May 19, 1920 on the family farm near Redfield to Ralph and Bertha (Bice) Swope. She graduated from Redfield High School in 1938 and married Martin Harms on March 29, 1940. They farmed southeast of Redfield for most of their married life before moving into Redfield.
Thelma and Martin enjoyed traveling and spent over thirty winters in Arizona. Thelma was an officer and life time member of the Redfield Hospital Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary, a 4-H leader and enjoyed square dancing, sewing, and cake decorating.
Thelma is survived by her children: Doyle (Mickey) Harms of Redfield, and their children: Stacey (Jason) Banister, Trisha (Chad) Bergjord, Lenae (James) Gunter and Jenna (Jessie Lewis) Harms; Karen (Jim) Cooper of Sundance, WY; and their children: Jay (Gloria) Cooper, Monica Switzer and Veronica (John) Widdoss; Devonna (Milton) Newman of Mina, SD; and their children: Marty (Karla) Newman, Marlin (Marilyn) Newman, Mark (Sharon) Newman, Darcy (Shad Wood) McCloud and Danene (Wes) Frankenstein; and Annabel (Jay) Lange of Andover, MN; and their children: Corey and Kayla Lange. She is also survived by thirty-one great grandchildren, her sister Aileen "Fern" Harp of Arkansas and her brother Virgil (Gladys) Swope of Redfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Martin in 2007, her brother Armond Swope and a granddaughter Lori Newlin.
