Theresa "Tressie" O. Esser, 93, of Redfield, died Sunday, December 07, 2014 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield. Father Christopher Hughes will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-5:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home and starting at 5:30 p.m. at St Bernard's with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Theresa was born November 28, 1921 in rural Zell, SD to Frank and Mary (Puettman) Jandel. She grew up on the family farm and attended St. Mary's School in Zell and Redfield High School. She married Roman Esser on April 23, 1946 in Zell. Theresa and Roman lived northeast of Redfield on the Esser family farm. They farmed and raised livestock all their married life.
Tressie was a big part of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, where she was involved in all aspects of the church. She taught CCD classes for over sixty years. Tressie was always willing to help lead the rosary at mass and funerals.
Tressie was well known for her bread and rolls that she made on a daily basis.
She is survived by her six sons: Chris (Peggy) of Fargo, ND; Fran (Carol) of Redfield; Jim (Jean) of Redfield; Mike of Redfield; Bill of Redfield and Leo of Fargo, ND; twenty-five grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Anna Miles of Turton, SD, her sister-in-law Elinor Jandel of Redfield and her son-in-law Cletus Simbeck of Kansas City, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roman in 1999, her daughter Anna Simbeck, her daughter-in-law Laura Esser, her brothers: Leo, Joe, Edward, Clem and Francis and her sisters: Lou Aspen, Mary Kaufman and Leona Esser.
