Obituary

Thomas P. Leinen, 68, of Redfield, SD, died Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Tom's wishes were to be cremated and a private family service at a later date. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Tom was born October 24, 1946 to Lyle and Shirley (Lunney) Leinen. Tom attended country school for a few years and Redfield Public School graduating in 1965. Tom served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970. He served in Vietnam before returning to work in the family business, Leinen Construction. In 1978, Tom married Carol McMahan and their daughter Trisha, was born to this union. He started working for Spink County Highway Department in 1987, and was Superintendent when he retired after 22 years. After his retirement, Tom watered the flower pots for the City of Redfield.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He was an avid supporter of the VFW and held many offices as well as being the current commander.

Tom enjoyed trapshooting and in 1973 was the South Dakota High Overall Champion. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son-in-law, friends and family. He always dominated anyone who was brave enough to play cards with him.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Redfield, his daughter Trisha (Anthony) Strohfus of Brookings, SD; his mother Shirley of Redfield, his brother Mike (Carol) of Grapevine, TX; his sister Kristi Mills of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his in-laws: James (Elena) McMahan, Didi (Bill) Blagg, David (Bev) McMahan, Shari (Clyde) Harr, Kathi (Bryon) Anderson, Gary (Teresa) McMahan, Alta Leinen, his Aunt Rita Lunney and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, his brother Jeff, his sister Kathi, his Uncle Ben Lunney and his brother-in-law Richard Mills.
