Obituary

Velva Beatrice Allen, 90, of Redfield, SD, died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Her funeral will be Monday, October 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Redfield. Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Velva was born August 25, 1920 to Frederick and Rose (Geiska) Miller at Crandon, SD. She grew up and attended country school in the Redfield area. Velva married James M. Allen on June 7, 1941 in Luverne, MN. They lived in Doland and in 1942 moved to a farm near Frankfort. In 1957, they moved into Redfield. Velva worked for Sunshine State Dairy for five years, then Harry's Station until retiring in 1988.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Velva is survived by sisters-in-law: Elsie Miller, Cecil Miller, Dorothy Allen and Nellie Allen and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Milton Allen, her two daughters: Sharon Arends and Sandra Allen, four brothers: Norman, Harvey, Orville and LeRoy, two sisters Fern Peterson and Darlene Province, sister-in-law Gladys Miller and two brothers-in-law Bill Peterson and Clarence Province and friend Paul Brandon.
