Obituary

Vera Leona Dunton, 87, formerly of Redfield, died Saturday, October 4, 2008 in Lincoln, Nebraska, following a two year illness.

Funeral services will be October 9, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery next to her two deceased husbands.

Vera was born in Davenport, IA on September 1, 1921 to Charles and Leona Luise (Weise) Krambeck. Vera graduated from Davenport High School in 1939. She married Russell C. Bucks, from Le Claire, IA, in 1941. In March 1960, Vera and Russell moved their family to a farm near Doland, SD, and Russell died in a farm accident in 1966. Vera then moved to Redfield, SD, and served as Register of Deeds for Spink County from 1967 to 1977. In October 1971, Vera married John Dunton, who had owned and operated the Spink County Abstract Office. Vera continued to live in Redfield following John's death in 1989. Vera's illness took her closer to her daughter and family in Lincoln NE in February of 2007.

As a resident of Doland and Redfield for 46 years, she served as the leader of the Timberettes 4-H Club for eight years. Vera was a member of the SD VFW Auxiliary for 10 years, a member of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club for 12 years, and member of the SD Association of County Officials for 12 years. Vera's hobbies were cooking, gardening, raising violets, sewing, and quilting. She was a member of the Doland and Redfield United Methodist Churches.

Vera is survived by her three children, Karen K. Wegner of Lincoln, NE; Dan R. Bucks of Helena, MT, and Dale A. Bucks of Elkridge, MD.; 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Evelyn Moeller of Bettendorf, IA and June Krull of North Platte, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Russell Bucks and John Dunton; one brother Eldon Krambeck.
