Vesta "Chick" Ida Gavette was born February 21, 1934 in Frankfort, SD to Cecil and Ramona (White) Gavette. She lived most of her childhood in Frankfort and graduated from Frankfort High School.  She married Hans Solheim on March 29, 1952 in Webster, SD.  They lived in Frankfort and to this union, four children were born: Terry, Penny, Michael and Tony.  They spent the last 20 years living in Redfield.

Chick was a bookkeeper for many years at Wheat Growers in Frankfort.  She was an Eastern Star member as well as a Red Hatter.  Chick enjoyed playing bridge and golf and loved to fish, camp, read, collect dolls and crochet.  Hans and Chick travelled to Arizona for many winters and went to Las Vegas for a number of years with a special group of friends.

She was very supportive of her family and was a spectator at many of their activities.  Her family will always remember her outgoing personality, her compassion, her great cooking and her love for the Lord.

Grateful for having shared Chick's life are her husband of 65 years, Hans, of Redfield; her children:  Penny Swope of Cottonwood, MN and Tony (Denise) Solheim of Frankfort.  She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; her sister, Joey Benedict of Albany, OR; her brothers-in-law:  Oscar (Bernice) Solheim and Marlin Solheim and her sisters-in-law:  Jan (Gene) Reich and Jan (Robert) Patterson.
