Viola M. (Marlow) Hardie, 103, of Redfield, SD, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at Eastern Star Home in Redfield.
Her services will be at Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Visitation with family present will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, with her funeral service starting at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Redfield. Lunch will be served following the burial at the Masonic Hall at Eastern Star Home. Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield has been entrusted with arrangements (www.hykefuneralhome.com).
Viola was born on June 7, 1922, in Redfield to Ben and Rose (Keller) Marlow.
Viola attended grade school in Hand County, graduating from Redfield in 1940. She then attended Northern State College for one year, receiving her teaching certificate. She taught Country School for four and one-half years. She worked at the Redfield Press for four years and at the South Dakota Developmental Center for fifteen years.
She married James R. Hardie on October 6, 1943, at the home of her parents in Hand County. To this union, two children were born. Son, Lynn Hardie, and daughter Vickie Hardie.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, United Church of Christ Congregational Church since 1946. She also served on boards and committees and worked in the Sarah Helene Circle.
Surviving are her daughter Vickie Hardie, sister Donna Johnsen, sister-in-law Bonnie Marlow, and her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband James, her son Lynn Hardie, her sisters Elinor (Leo) Jandel and Mildred (Maurice) Ratigan, her brothers, Dale (Virginia) Marlow, Howard (Betty) Marlow, Vern Marlow, infant Ben Marlow, and a brother-in-law Marvin Johnsen.
