Obituary

Walter E. Schnittgrund, 93, of Redfield, SD, died Friday, January 30, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Redfield, after a long battle with cancer. Walt was cremated and his memorial service will be Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Redfield. Reverend Peter M. Utecht will officiate. Walt was born October 26, 1915 in Redfield to Henry and Dora (Kahlback) Schnittgrund. He lived his entire life in Redfield, graduating from Redfield High School in 1933. Walt served two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1930's. Walt and Blanche Ehrich were married, in Rockham, SD, in 1939. Walt worked for Montgomery Ward for several years before starting his own freight business which he ran for twelve years. He then worked for Schnittgrund Plumbing and Heating for several years. He worked for South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield retiring in 1984.

Walt enjoyed playing softball, bowling, hunting and fishing,

Walt is survived by his wife, of sixty-nine years, Blanche of Redfield, their daughter Dorene (Paul) Beavers of Reno, NV; and their son Loren (Patti) Schnittgrund of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and his brother Fred Schnittgrund of Douglas, WY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Ralph, Henry and Emil and two sisters: Edna and Alyce.
