Wanda Bernice Tompkins was born December 8th, 1945 in Miller, SD to Elden and DeLila (Speirs) Tomkins. She grew up on a farm outside of Highmore and graduated from Highmore High School. She studied Art at Northern State College. Wanda married Chuck Haugen on March 11, 1967 in Highmore. They lived in Watertown for two years and then moved to Redfield where she resided for 46 years.

Wanda battled stage four ovarian cancer for over 16 months and passed from complications from her treatment. Wanda was very active throughout the Redfield community where she belonged to Jaycees, extension clubs, local organizations and church decorating groups where she donated her special crafting and art skills. Wanda had a knack for making things beautiful and "homey". Wanda was a devoted wife and mother, she also worked around Redfield at: Ben Franklin, Randall's Pharmacy, Redfield grade school teacher's aide, Weathervane Antiques and the local flower shop. But her favorite was a small business owner of County Crafts and Ceramics once on Redfield Main Street. Wanda was a very talented quilter and also loved gardening, baking, ceramics, crafting, antiquing, sewing and painting.

Wanda is survived by her husband Chuck, three daughters: Natalie (Robert) Goss of Galesburg, IL; Barbra Jo Haugen of Saint Paul, MN and Carrie (Mark) McCloskey of Sioux Falls, seven grandchildren: Bradley, Brett and Kathryn Goss and Katrina, Meagan, Charlie and Ryan McCloskey.
