Obituary

Wayne B. Jensen, 73, of Redfield, SD died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. His funeral will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Rockham.. Reverend Julie Nygaard will officiate. Burial will be in the Rockham Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. US Highway 212 between Redfield and Rockham will be open for use on Saturday. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Wayne was born August 17, 1935 in Rockham to Magnus and Hester (Elder) Jensen. He grew up in the Rockham/Zell area and graduated from Redfield High School in 1953. Wayne served in the National Guard for fourteen years. Wayne and Irene Geffre were married July 15, 1956 in Leola. He worked for the irrigation farm east of Redfield, farmed with Forrest Preston, worked for area farmers in Claremont and Ashton before buying the family farm from his uncle, which is now farmed by his son-in-law. Wayne and Irene farmed and ran their dairy farm before moving into Redfield in 2005. Wayne drove school bus for the Redfield School for many years. He recently had been delivering vehicles for Schoenhard Ford in Huron.

Wayne enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, traveling and socializing. Wayne and Irene traveled all over the country. They also helped, along with Irene's brother and wife give pony rides to kids, at events, in North and South Dakota. Wayne enjoyed calling, texting and sending pictures to his children and grandchildren.

Wayne is survived by his wife Irene of Redfield, three daughters: Shirley (Steve) Knodel of Scottsbluff, NE; Sheri (Pat) Zens of Redfield and Shelly (Wayne) Heckenlaible of Menno. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren: Nickolas Knodel, Stephanie Knodel, Brad Knodel, Ryan (Ashley) Zens and their children: Madysson, Bryson, Dawson and Coleson, Mindy (Josh Hartman) Zens and children: Kaylie and Jaxson, Courtney (Jon) Nelson and their children: Jadie and Tucker, Megan Zens, Carmen Heckenlaible and her son Aiden and Cory Heckenlaible.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Earl Roy.
