Wayne A. Lewis, 62, of Redfield, SD, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. His memorial service will be Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate. Cremains burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery with military rites. There will be a time to visit with the family Wednesday from 5-6:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Wayne was born September 19, 1950 in Redfield to Loyde and Bernedene (Hansen) Lewis. He grew up in Doland and attended school in Redfield. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he worked bridge construction for Sweetman Construction for many years, traveling in South Dakota and Iowa. He worked at South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield for several years before moving to Colorado. He returned to Redfield in 1998.
Wayne liked fixing anything and was willing to help anyone that needed help. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and his biggest joy was his grandchildren.
Wayne is survived by two daughters: Shawnmarie (Bill) Burt of Aberdeen, SD and their children: Kyla, Paige and Tayden; Clarinda (Chad) Penny of Presho, SD and their children: Tristan, Jasper and Kaysha; two sons: Chance (Shanice) Lewis of Mission, SD and his children: Teyah and Chance Jr.; and Dakota Lewis of Lamar, CO; and three step sons Eddie (Fely) Bromwich of Lower Brule, SD and his children: Demas and Eeon; Robert Lulf of Kimball, NE and his children: Alexis and Austin; and Micheal Griess of Texas; and his step daughter: Toni (Eddie) Barnes of Kimball, NE and their children: Summer, Autumn and Eddie; . He is also survived by a special friend Dawn Hallsted and his siblings: Allan and Sandy, Shirley, Roxie and Randy, Larry, Terry and Amanda, Lonnie and Teresa, Bernadette and Terry, and Brenda and Robert.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gary, a brother-in-law Kenny Klipfel and a step daughter Bobbi Griess.
