Obituary

Wilbur Pudwill, 98, of Redfield, SD, passed away peacefully at his daughter's residence on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. His family will host a Celebration of Life at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Starter's Lanes and Sports Lounge in Redfield. Following Wilbur's wish, he has been cremated.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield. (www.hykefuneralhome.com)

Wilbur Pudwill was born April 3, 1923, to Fred and Josephine (Johnson) Pudwill in Pollock, SD.  He attended country school. He later joined the United States Army and served in WWII. Once honorably discharged, Wilbur moved to Santa Ana, CA and worked for Pepsi.

He married Audrey Carrico on January 31, 1951, in Colorado Springs, CO and to this union two children were born. In the 1980's, they returned back to South Dakota.  He then worked at the Spink County Extension Office doing pest control until retirement and then drove bus for the Redfield Senior Center.

Wilbur was a fun loving, very social man who loved to tell stories.  His hobbies were fishing, hunting, and gardening.  He was known to cook plenty and then share with many of his neighbors.

Wilbur is survived by his son Sam Pudwill of Redfield and his children Justin (Karin), Samantha, and Andrew; daughter Nancy (Todd) Schwartz of Redfield and their children Alec and Duncan.  He is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Ella, Taylor, LiLu and Harper; and brother Jerry (Vickie) Pudwill.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Gladys, Lenora, and Florence; three brothers: Clayton, Dewayne, and Charles; and longtime companion Esther Hammer.
