Wilma Leona (Steele) Nelson, 87, of Redfield, SD, passed away at her home on Sunday, October 20, 2019.  Her funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Redfield.  Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate.  Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.

Visitation will be prior to the service Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., at the church.  Family will be present from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. to accept condolences.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield.  (www.hykefuneralhome.com)

Wilma Leona Steele was born in Redfield, SD on August 14, 1932, to William L. and Tena O. (Nelsen) Hagen.  She grew up in Redfield and attended Redfield Public School.  On October 18, 1950, Wilma married Carl R. Nelson in Webster, SD and they farmed together in the Redfield area.

She was a busy housewife and also employed by Dean's Jack & Jill.  Until Carl passed away in 2010, Wilma spent many years with family at the lake.  She loved to play cards, bingo, and the nickel slot machines and enjoyed going to the bowling alley to watch the "Bowling Girls."

Wilma is survived by her children:  Robert (Cheryl) Nelson of Redfield; Barb (Skeeter) Wetzler of Northville, SD; Kathy Jacobson of Redfield; Chris (Dale Jessen) Nelson of Norfolk, NE; and Mike (Kim) Nelson of Sioux Falls, SD.  She is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; son-in-law Woody Welke of Huron, SD; sister Rose Reed of Rapid City, SD; and sister-in-law Betty Johnson of Plymouth, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carl; daughter Marjorie Welke; five brothers; and three sisters.
