Obituary

Yvonne M. Benning, 71, of Casa Grande, AZ, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Hospice Family Care in Casa Grande. Her funeral will be Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield, SD. Father Christopher Hughes will celebrate the mass. After a time for fellowship and lunch, at the church hall in Redfield, the burial will be in the Rockham Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 5:30 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Vonne was born April 12, 1942 in Zell, SD to George and Loretta (Esser) Muellenberg. Vonne graduated from Mount Marty College, Yankton, SD. She was awarded national certification as an ASCP certified Cytotechnologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathology after completing the Cytotechnologist Program at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She worked 25 years plus as a certified cytotechnologist (screening clinical specimens for cancer cells) at several clinical pathology laboratories, including Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD; St. Joseph Hospital, Stockton, CA; Delco Laboratory, Stockton, CA: and Modesto, CA private pathology laboratories.

Vonne is survived by husband, Kenneth Benning; sons: Steve (Andrea) Benning and their children Mariah and Zoe of Flagstaff, AZ; Michael Benning (Meghan), Phoenix, AZ; her sisters: Phyllis Muellenberg, Council Bluffs, IA; Rosanne Stone, Anaheim, CA; Patricia Widmer (Walter), Sandy, UT; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Matthew Merle Muellenberg; paternal grandparents Mathias and Mary (Abris) Muellenberg; and maternal grandparents Paul and Sophie Rueschenberg Esser.
