Beatrice “Bea” Catherine Hixon, 85, of Redfield, SD, formerly of Frankfort, SD passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at Avantara Redfield in Redfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Redfield, SD. Reverend John Short will officiate. Inurnment will follow at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Frankfort, SD.
Masks and social distancing are recommended at the church. For those unable to wear or are uncomfortable with masks, as well as those unable to attend in person, the funeral service will be live-streamed to the funeral home’s website. Beatrice “Bea” Robinson was born February 11, 1936 in Frankfort, SD to Lorraine and Mayme “Mary” (Eimers) Robinson. Bea was one of ten siblings. She attended school in Frankfort from kindergarten through 12th grade where she was active in sports and cheerleading.
On December 31, 1957, Bea married William “Bill” Hixon in Frankfort, SD. Bill served in the Air Force and Bea traveled with him to many locations serving as a civil servant at military bases where Bill was stationed at. Bea devoted her life to raising her five children. She sewed all her children’s clothing as they were growing up and she enjoyed watching them participate in sports. Her children remember her fondly as being a good cook, making them fresh bread every Monday, and as being loving yet stern.
In 2002, Bea and Bill moved to Frankfort, SD where Bea devoted her time to community service, working alongside other local ladies at the community center. Bea enjoyed crocheting, making many blankets and afghans over the years, and she was excellent at cake decorating. Bea also enjoyed watching local sports, especially baseball and softball.
Bea will be greatly missed by her sons: Thomas (Dawn) Hixon of Redfield, SD, and Mike Hixon of Aquasco, MD; daughters: Tina Arenas of Dallas, TX, and Dianne Peden of Frankfort, SD. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren and soon to be twenty-five.
Also surviving Bea are sisters: Josephine Harris of Chamberlain, SD; Florence Hinker of Belle Fourche, SD; Denise (Daryl) Taylor of Cumming, IA; Sharon (Sheldon) Osborn of Redfield; and Lucille Liebig of Redfield; brothers: Sylvester (Kay) Robinson of Redfield, SD; Lawrence Robinson of Frankfort, SD; and sister-in-law Clairice Robinson of Frankfort, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lorraine and Mayme Robinson; husband Bill; daughter Anna Reyes; brother Stephen “Steve” Robinson; sister Mary (Charles) Hurst; and brothers-in-law: Bill Liebig, Dick Harris, and Joe Hinker.
Bea was well-loved and will never be forgotten.
