Bonnie M. Barz, 94, of Redfield, SD and formerly of Doland SD, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 09:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Doland United Methodist Church. Her funeral service will be Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the Doland United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Jon Damaska officiating. Burial will follow at the Doland Cemetery. A time of gathering will follow at the Doland United Methodist Church.

Bonnie Merle (Beebe) Barz was born on September 9,1926 near Mellette, SD to Emery and Blanche (Stelle) Beebe. Bonnie spent her early years in Norbeck, SD, and northern Minnesota, then moved with her family to Mellette, where she graduated high school in 1944. She began teaching in a country school at the age of 17 after earning the required 12-week state teaching certificate.
Bonnie married Evan Barz on July 17, 1948. She continued to teach the primary grades 1-3 in the Mellette school system for six years. Their son Larry was born in 1956, and they moved to Doland within a year. Bonnie began teaching fifth grade in Doland in 1965. She earned her Bachelor of Science attending summer school at Northern State College.
Bonnie was active in several community organizations, both in Mellette and Doland. She taught Sunday School, Bible School and was Sunday School superintendent for several years in the United Methodist Church in Doland. She held various offices in the American Legion Auxiliary, the Doland Study Club, and Selena Rebekah Lodge #175. Bonnie enjoyed playing card games, creating pheasant feather greeting cards, and trying new recipes. She was locally famous, especially amongst adult trick-or-treaters, for her homemade Halloween candy suckers.
Bonnie is survived by her son Larry and wife Tammy of Keizer, Oregon, and 2 grandchildren, Kristin and Matt. She is also survived by sister Alice Beebe in Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brothers George and Bob.
