Family Mass of Christian Burial for Clayton Francis Gaulrapp, 93, of Aberdeen, SD and formerly of Redfield, SD, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 4, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen with Reverend Andrew Dickinson officiating. 

Burial, with military honors, will be at 1:30 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield, SD. 

Rosary will be said at Sacred Heart Church on Friday, December 4 at 9:30 a.m.  Visitation at the church will be an hour prior to the Mass at 11:00 a.m.  Masks and social distancing are encouraged at the church.  The Mass will be live-streamed to the funeral home's website.

Clayton passed away at home on Saturday, November 28, 2020.

Clayton Francis Gaulrapp was born August 3, 1927, at Wheaton, MN, to George and Mary (Finke) Gaulrapp.  He was raised in the area and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1947.  He enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 at the age of 17 and served aboard a ship in the Pacific.  He was honorably discharged in 1946 and then returned to finish high school.

He married Marjorie Starkey at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Mahnomen, MN on October 18, 1949. 

In 1950, he began work with Red Owl Stores Inc. as store manager, merchandiser, and district sales manager.  In 1971, Clayton and Marjorie purchased the Red Owl Store in Redfield, SD, and operated it until 1987 when Clayton retired.  He then worked at Hansen Motors for a short time.  Clayton and Marjorie moved to Aberdeen, SD, in October of 2011.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen and a past member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield where he was an usher, lector, and on the church council.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the VFW. 

In his younger years, he was an avid fisherman, coin collector, golfer, hunter, and enjoyed the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, and Golden Gophers.  He and his wife traveled extensively. 

He is survived by his wife Marjorie of Aberdeen; sons:  Craig (Deb) of Mesa, AZ; Kevin (Patrice) of St. Paul, MN; Jeff (Katie) Gaulrapp of Sioux Falls, SD; and Corey (Leslie) of Aberdeen; daughters:  Joni Odenbach of Aberdeen and Jane (Rick) Whitley of Hilton Head, SC.  He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers; and five sisters.

Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two great-grandchildren.
