Donna Mae Kissner, 59, died of natural causes at her home in Rapid City, SD on Thursday, October 29, 2020.
Donna Mae was born a twin to her sister Darlene Faye on June 12, 1961 in Redfield, SD to Herman and Edna (Mommer) Kissner. She grew up on a farm north of Rockham.
Donna attended the Rockham Public School until 3rd grade and then the special education program at Faulkton Public School until 1978, when she entered the Huron Area Adjustment Training Center (HAATC) in Huron, SD with the goal of learning life skills and vocational training. She lived in the 4th street house congregate living until 1981. Then she moved to the 1030 house congregate home. She also lived in four foster homes and the Blue Bird Apartments in Huron. She enjoyed her work at the HAATC and was one of their better producers putting knots in strings, putting pulleys on knotted strings, snapping 3-M clips, and working on the Gandy assembly line.
In 2007, Donna moved to Blachford House in Miller, SD. While in Miller she worked at the Miller Press as a janitor and made many friends. Donna stayed a short time at the South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield, but then, in 2015, was fortunate enough to move to the Black Hills Works supported Parkview Apartments in Rapid City, SD where she lived out the remainder of her life. She was employed at the hospital in Rapid City where she liked to joke around with her supervisors Mike and Trena. Donna was her happiest in Rapid City and made many friends there who loved her.
Donna was preceded in death by a brother, Karl (1963), her mother Edna (1999) and her father Herman (2009). She is survived by her siblings, Linda (Bernie) Koch, Darlene (Mike) Kaelin, and Dale (Angie) Kissner. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Jessica Lyon, Kelly (Tyler) Brown, Travis (Stacia) Koch, John (Annie) Kissner, Marcie Kissner and Mollie Kissner and by eight, soon to be nine, great nieces and nephews.
