Doris June Henrichsen was born June 24, 1940 at home on the farm outside of Crandall, SD to William and Rose (Herr) Henrichsen. She attended grade school in Butler and graduated from Bristol High School in 1958. Following high school, she helped on the farm and worked at the Red Owl Store in Webster and the Jack & Jill Store in Redfield.
Doris met the love of her life, Richard “Bud” LaBrie in Crocker, SD at a baseball game, introduced by her brother Therlo. Bud and Doris married on a snowy day, December 1, 1960 in Turton. They raised five daughters and two sons on the farm. They retired from farming in 1994 and moved to Doland. Doris worked 22 years driving school bus and doing various jobs at the Doland School; but her life’s work was being a wonderful mother to her kids and later spoiling her grandkids and great-grandkids. There was never a bad time for ice cream.
Devoting her life to raising her family, Doris was the cornerstone to the LaBrie family. She played softball, then coached the Turton Frogs softball teams that her daughters played on as they grew up. She spent many hours on the road getting her kids to sporting events, 4-H events, and school activities. She rarely missed an opportunity to cheer for her kids, keeping her own stats just to make sure the official books were accurate.
Doris was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She looked forward to the annual family camping trips, scrapbooking, doing crafts, spending time with her children, grandkids, and great-grandkids, and the holidays. She was kind, patient, loving, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She made the most of each day.
Doris will be greatly missed by her family: Jodi (Noel) Gabriel of Whitewood; Julie (Kerwin) Hoellein of Mansfield; Rick (Debbie) LaBrie of Pierre; Kristi (Steve) Stein of Volga; Kathy (Dale) Taylor of Kimball; Terri (Donnie) Coble of Sturgis; and daughter-in-law Mollie LaBrie of Turton. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren: Kayla (Seth), Kelli (Tyler), Derek, Mitchell (Michele), Desha, Micah, Amber (Sam), Jordan (Maari), Jamison, Alex, Andrea (Ryan), Jesse, Josh, Jennifer, Jessica (Jon), Logan, and Kaylie; and 16 great-grandchildren: Elle, Emeree, James, Jameson, Grayson, Keller, Kirby, Matti, Baylor, Noah, Peyton, Riley, Braxton, Leo, Hudson, and McKoy. Also surviving Doris are two sisters: Delores Whitmyre of Webster and Joan Solberg of Aberdeen; two brothers: John Henrichsen of Lisbon, ND and William (Bill) Henrichsen of Castlewood; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bud, son Michael (Mike), brothers Therlo and Arlo, an infant sister Jane, and her parents.
