Edward Lee Rezabek was born in Lucas, Kansas on October 28, 1929, to James and Edna Mae (Perry) Rezabek.  He was raised on the family farm and his job on the farm was to take the cattle down to the ditches to graze.  He lost his father at an early age.  Being the youngest of eight siblings, he has nieces and nephews the same age or older.  During his high school years, he played quarterback for the Lucas Demons and he graduated in 1948.  Edward had many jobs including working in construction and as a gas attendant until he started farming with a cousin who had bought land around Athol, SD.   Together they raised corn, wheat, sunflowers, and soybeans.

Edward married Lola Swagart of Clay Center, Kansas on February 14, 1956, and brought her and her daughter Sue Ann to Athol to live.   During the winter months when not busy with farming, he worked for Kresinger Prairie Wood Art making church alters and pews.  He was very proud of their craftsmanship.

Edward farmed in Spink County from 1955 to 2007 until he retired to take care of Lola until she passed away in 2008.  Following her death, Edward spent his time working around the house and gardening.  He started planting pumpkins and gave them away to his friends’ kids who always made a big deal of going to Eddie’s to pick out their own pumpkins.  Other hobbies included refinishing furniture and woodworking.

Edward is survived by his daughter Kim Bell of Athol; grandchildren Renea Halbur (Keith Gunderson), and Joshua Bell; and great-granddaughter Releena Bell.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife Lola; daughter Sue Ann; and son Scott.
