Erika Szuggar was born December 30, 1941, in Butow, Germany to Albert and Veronica Szuggar.  Her mother died before coming to the United States and her father remarried Edith Guthun.  When they immigrated, the family changed the spelling of their last name to Suggar.  They moved to Mansfield, SD where Erika attended school.  She later attended Northville Northwestern School where she graduated in 1961.

On June 17, 1962, she married Mike Igo in Ashton, SD.  He entered the military and served for 21 years with Erika by his side.  They worked through those years as a team.  After retiring from the military, they returned to South Dakota to live and work.  She worked numerous jobs but the most rewarding one was at St. John Welding where she held the job as bookkeeper and inventory specialist.

Her favorite hobby was fishing, and she loved sharing that passion with her grandchildren from Texas during the summer months when she would care for them.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings:  Ann Lunken, Albert Suggar, Wally Suggar, and Harley Suggar.

Grateful for having a wonderful life with her are her husband of 57 years, Mike of Ashton; two outstanding children:  Diedre (Billy) LaFond and Michael (Monica) Igo, both of Texas; and her amazing grandchildren:  Samantha LaFond, Emma Igo, and Kristin Igo.  Also, surviving are her sisters:  Astrid (Dennis) Mayek of Wisconsin and Loretta (Tom) Copeland of Colorado.
