Gene Leslie Zoodsma was born July 23, 1945, in Colville, WA to Sid and Bea (West) Zoodsma.  When Gene was young, he would spend many summers working for Uncle Harold on the family farm in Ashton, SD.  This sparked his interest in farming, and he began taking many vocational classes during high school to prepare himself to be a farmer. Gene graduated from Colville High School in 1963.  After graduation, he moved to Ashton to farm with Uncle Harold and for many years working and learning the family business of farming.  He took the lead of the farm and continued to build a successful farming life.  Over the years, he has built a special bond with Stacey Frericks and the two of them developed FZ Farms.   Even in “retirement” Gene still helped pass on his farming knowledge and wouldn’t miss an opportunity to help around the farm by running supplies, driving truck, and never missing the morning “safety meeting” with Stacey.   Gene’s biggest joy was his family and farming.

Gene married the love of his life, Sandy Nelson, on August 13, 1966.  Together they had two daughters, Jolene and Renae.  Gene had a love of darts throughout the years and has many trophies to show for it.  The other pride and joy is his ’36 Ford that was restored several years ago.  Sandy and Gene took this car on their first date in 1961 and their 50th anniversary date in 2016.   They would love to go cruising with the Spink Co. Cruisers or just an evening spur of the moment drive to go out for supper.  Gene also loved to show off his car at area car shows.

Gene is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughters Jolene (Sean) Johnson of Donnelly, ID, and Renae (Robert) Eddy of Rapid City, SD; and brother Larry (JoAnn) Zoodsma of Colville, WA. His grandchildren:  Destinee Johnson of Boise, ID, Cierra Johnson of McCall, ID,  and Ansley and Tanner Eddy of Rapid City, SD; Auntie Marion Beardsley of Colville, WA; Uncle Marion Zoodsma of Modesto, CA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Sid & Bea Zoodsma, and one sister, Kaye Bliss.
