Helen Louise (Hinkle) Simons, 94, of Frankfort, SD, passed away at home under hospice care on Tuesday, March 31, 2020. She chose cremation and no services. Helen Louise Hinkle was born on October 5, 1925, in Piney, MO to Earl and Rose (Swartz) Hinkle. The fourth of seven children, she had two sisters and four brothers. She married Paul H. Schumm and together they raised three children: Joyce, Paul, and LeRoy.
She had many hobbies including crocheting, knitting, playing cards, hunting, riding her motorcycle, and traveling when she had the chance. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She will be greatly missed by many as well as a large extended family.
Helen is survived by her daughter Joyce Brummett of Frankfort, SD; nine stepchildren: Tom, John, Carroll, Sam, and Leo Simons; Marjorie Littlefield, Roseanne Bernard, Judith Minnich, and Laura Simon; grandchildren: Leah Carnes of Herington, KS; Lori Pearson of Elizabethtown, NC; Lonny Brummett of Lebanon, OR; Dee Strob of Evans, GA; Dianne Grover of Rapid City, SD; Stacey Minnich of Tulsa, OK, David Simons of Edgemont, SD; Sonja Turner of Quincy, IL; Paul Schumm III of Quincy, IL; and Zeke Schumm of Alexandria, SD. She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Amanda Freeman of OR; Melissa Holloman of KS; Virginia Huggard of CO; Miranda Carnes, Moriah Carnes, Gabriella Carnes, and Geno Carnes all of OR; and Nicholas Strob of GA; as well as 23 great-great-grandchildren and 21 step great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; all her siblings; two sons: Paul Schumm II and LeRoy Schumm; and one grandson.
