On July 23, 1930, Ila Mae was born to George and Ella (Irwin) Schade on the family farm south of Zell. After graduating from Redfield High School, she attended a 12-week teacher training at Northern State College then worked in Hand and Spink Counties, ending her seven-year career at Schade School.

Ila Mae married Royce O. Bush, Jr., on July 9, 1953, at First Congregational UCC. They farmed in Spink County for nine years before moving to Redfield where they raised five children. For 29 years Ila Mae operated an in-home daycare, retiring in 1998.

Being a grandmother and great-grandmother was Ila Mae’s pride and joy. She also prioritized her faith in God by service through Ruth Circle and the Women’s Fellowship of First Congregational UCC. According to a former church moderator, Ila Mae’s phone number was on speed dial at the church.

Ila Mae is survived by her five children, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren: Randy (Sandi) Bush, Wichita, KS, Alaina Bush, Dublin, Ireland, and boyfriend Joseph Silvente; Sharlene Bush, Mankato, MN; Peggy (Byron) Meyer, Shaylynn, and Kaitlynn, Columbus, NE; Tim (Terri) Bush, Emily (Jake) Juettner, all of Alexandria, MN, David Bush and girlfriend Samantha Hogstad, Portland, OR, and Heidi Bush, Chicago, IL; and Barb (Don) Paulson, Custer, Naomi (Garrett) Michael, Isabella, and Tate, St. Peter, MN, Charles Paulson, Sturgis, and Maggie Paulson, her fiancé Charlie Sellers and Ila, Sioux Falls. Ila Mae is also survived by siblings Don Schade and Rita Lunney, both of Redfield, brother-in-law Joe Nuhsbaumer and sister-in-law June Ehrich, both of Zell, sisters-in-law Helen Bush, Tacoma, WA, and Frances Bush, Victorville, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ila Mae was preceded in death by her husband in 2012, her parents, and three sisters, Irene McCart, Doris Paschke, and Roberta Schade.

The family prefers memorials to First Congregational Church UCC–Redfield, Redfield School Foundation, or Good Samaritan Center of Redfield (see below).
