Shirley Jean (Stoner) Sanger, 98, of Redfield, SD, passed away Monday, December 13, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller, SD.
Shirley's son, Randy Gene Sanger, 64, of San Marcos, TX and formerly of Redfield, passed away hours later on December 13 in San Marcos.
Shirley’s daughter, Janice Kathaleen (Sanger) Davies, 73, of Redfield, SD passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, SD.
There will be a joint Celebration of Life honoring Shirley and her two children on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the Redfield United Methodist Church in Redfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Their service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastors Melissa Rowenhorst and Jim Hofman officiating.
After the funeral service, military honors will take place outside the church in honor of Randy and his honorable career with the U.S. Navy. There will also be a memorial service for Randy at a later date in Texas where he will be laid to rest.
Interment for Shirley will follow the military honors and a time for refreshments and fellowship at the church. Burial will be at the Rockham Grace Cemetery in Rockham, SD at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Janice Kathaleen Sanger was born to Raymond and Shirley (Stoner) Sanger in Miller, SD on July 24, 1947. She was the second of five children and grew up on a farm west of Rockham, SD. Janice was active in the Rockham Methodist Church and 4-H in her youth. She graduated from Redfield High School and continued her schooling at Northern State College and completed her Physics and Math degrees.
Janice worked in Minneapolis, MN, where she married Marion Davies. She became stepmother to his two daughters. They moved to Rockham, SD in 1976 and had four children together. After their divorce, she went back to Northern to get a Master’s Degree in Counseling. Janice worked as a counselor in Chadron, NE and Redfield, SD, where she continued to live. She also worked at Leo's Restaurant for many years in Redfield and was a substitute teacher for the Redfield Public School.
In her spare time, Janice enjoyed spending time with friends and family, continued to play piano her whole life, was an avid reader and gardener, and enjoyed playing games. She also enjoyed keeping up with politics and current events, was intrigued by science, and was a mainstay at weekly Whist and Bridge card games. She was proud of her work with the Women's Crisis Center in Redfield.
At the time of her death, Janice was survived by her mother, Shirley Jean (Stone) Sanger of Miller; four children: Brian Davies of Fargo, ND, Cara (Mark Pullman) Davies of Watertown, SD, Kevin Davies of Redfield, SD and Alan (Samantha) Davies of Billings, MT; step-daughters, Jill of Valparaiso, IN and Tanya of Flagstaff, AZ; five grandchildren: Tristan, Joseph, Taryn, Elizabeth, and Jacob; four siblings: June (Ron) Ohm of Redfield, SD, Charles (Diane) Sanger of Mobridge, SD, Beverly (Travis) Letsche of St. Lawrence, SD and Randy (Zenaida) Sanger, of Corpus Christi, TX; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her father Raymond Sanger at the time of her death.
