Lyle Elsworth Crook was born April 10, 1932, to Viola (Schafer) and A. Earl Crook of Frankfort, SD. He died April 6, 2020, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield, SD. Lyle was the sixth of eight children. He grew up on the family farm near Frankfort and attended Redfield Public School. He married Joan Louise Mason on July 23, 1953. He served his country in the Korean War. After his service, he returned home to the farm. Lyle and Joan enjoyed traveling. Later in their life, they spent many years wintering in Yuma, AZ. They retired from farming and moved into Redfield in 1994. They moved into the Eastern Star Home apartments in 2011 and later into the assisted living.
Lyle did many woodwork projects including the cabinets at the farm, quilt racks for the girls, and dolly cradles for the grandkids. He enjoyed planting flowers every spring and doing jigsaw puzzles. Many of his puzzles are preserved and hang on the walls of the Eastern Star Home as well as in his great-grandchildren's homes.
Lyle is survived by his wife Joan in the Eastern Star Home and two daughters: Jackie (Ted) Pazour and Mickie (Alan) Johnson, both of Frankfort. He is also survived by five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Others surviving him include three sisters: Chris Appel of Redfield, Arlene Doak, and Ginny (Lewis) Kirkland both of Yuma, AZ along with a brother Berwyn Crook of Warminster, PA. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Alvin and Rollie, and one sister Eudora Parker.
Due to the coronavirus, there will be no service. Only a private family burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be given to: Redfield United Methodist Church, Eastern Star Home, or Parkinson Foundation.
