Burial is at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Turton, next to his father. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home. (

He was born on March 25, 1943, to Antone Oscar Barrie and Sylvia Grace (Meyers) Barrie in Conde.

He attended the Barrie farm school southeast of Turton and Groton Elementary School.  He then went to the Redfield state school in 1955.  In 1965, Lynn was the last person who started the Top 10 Program.  He was one of two people who successfully completed the program.  His first job as part of the program was working at Mitchell’s nursing home; he was working for the person who started the Top 10 program.  Then, he moved back to Redfield; he worked at the Phillip’s 66 Gas Station and Café; his apartment was above the Ringneck Lodge.  During that time, Lynn recovered from an accident where he broke his leg when a car hit him while he was riding his bike to work.  Then, he moved to a basement apartment at Dorothy Wilhelm’s.  In 1967, he went to the Bus Café in Redfield to purchase a ticket to Aberdeen where he planned to look for a job.  Tom Gallup would have sold Lynn a ticket, but because Tom had worked with Lynn at the state school, Tom offered Lynn a job.  Lynn worked at Redfield’s Bus Café, Cinema Theater, and the Pheasant City Drive-in until he retired.  For many summers, Lynn also helped with Tom’s greenhouse.  He liked to help at the Redfield Senior Center and made many friends.

Lynn shared a mobile home with Henry Heller.  He liked to play Bingo and won a lot.  He was sharp and had a good sense of humor.  Lynn knew all the bus schedules for the routes going in and out of Redfield; he knew the drivers’ names, too.  He had a love for trains and dogs.  Throughout his life, he cared for five dogs.  Lynn had a large garden and enjoyed canning. He also enjoyed baking and cooking, skills he learned while he was at the state school.

Lynn was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Redfield.  He enjoyed listening to music and had an extensive CD collection.  His favorite singer was George Strait.  Lynn was grateful for his close friends who were like family to him: Tom and Letha Gallup (Redfield) and Kevin and Julia Johnsen (Redfield).

Due to declining health, Lynn moved to Groton in June 2018; he enjoyed getting lots of baked goods and treats from his sister, Wendy.  In July 2019, Lynn visited the farm where he lived as a young child. Shortly after that visit, he was given his grandfather’s (Exerie Barrie) Christmas cactus; the plant was over 125 years old when Lynn got it.

Lynn is survived by his siblings: Robert M. (LuAnn) Barrie, Arlington, Texas; Wendy (Glenn) Cooper, Groton, South Dakota; and Scott C. Biffert, Grapevine, Texas; his aunt, Beulah Hoops, Groton, South Dakota; several nieces and nephews: Mike (Cynthia) Barrie, Arlington, Texas; Bonnie Cooper, Fargo, North Dakota; Chad Barrie, Arlington, Texas; Charles (Kelly) Cooper, Fargo, North Dakota; several great nieces: Sasha and Ashley Barrie, Arlington, Texas; Adriana Barrie, Arlington, Texas; and MacKenzie (Matt) Gable and Ava Cooper, Fargo, North Dakota; and his stepfather, Jerald Biffert, Groton, South Dakota.  He was preceded in death by his parents as well as several aunts and uncles.
