Marvin “Bud” Julian Remily was born June 7, 1934, in Sumner Township, SD to Julian Lawrence and Myrtle Desnaige (Fortin) Remily. He grew up in the Doland, SD area and completed eighth grade at the Doland School before joining his family to work on the farm.
On October 14, 1954, Bud married Mildred Elaine Engel at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Turton, SD. They spent their lives working hard with dairy and crop farming and raising their seven sons on the farm. He instilled in his sons to work hard and to help your neighbors. Bud would never hesitate to assist a neighbor and would routinely send his sons to do the same. Many neighbors had hay moved and custom stacked by Bud and sons. For one year, he did butchering at the Red Owl Store, and for many years after, he did custom butchering for neighbors and friends.
When he wasn’t working, Bud enjoyed playing cards, especially poker. He loved horses, a passion that started as a child. His family will always remember his hard work ethic as well as being a “jack of all trades.”
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of 65 years, Mildred; his sons: Lonnie M. Remily of Doland; Joe (Dianne) Remily of Doland; Kim (Melanie) Remily of Aberdeen, SD; Rodney (Audrey) Remily of Doland; Darrel Remily of Turton; Delbert (Lori) Remily of Doland; and daughter-in-law Teri (Mike) Remily Hofer of Doland. Bud is also survived by his sister Rachel Coats and brother Maurice Remily, both of Rapid City, SD; 16 grandchildren; and 28, with two more on-the-way, great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Gary Remily; grandson Jeffry Remily; two infant brothers; and sisters: Gladys Bowman; Lorene Haney; Dorothy Hagety; Elaine Rahm; Lila Miles, and Marvel Mann.
