Due to the increase in influenza cases and how possible exposure to corona virus to the elderly, people with compromised immune systems and people with respiratory issues, Dr. Owens has ordered the closing of these facilities to visitation."
Thus, the funeral visitation for Lucille Strahl at the Eastern Star Chapel has been canceled. Visitation will only take place at Hyke Funeral Home, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, with a Scriptural Prayer Service and Rosary at 5:30 p.m.
Mary “Lucille” Strahl, 96, of Redfield, SD, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020, at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield. Reverend Tom Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery in Redfield.
Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with family present, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. A Scriptural Prayer Service and Rosary will begin at 5:30 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home. (www.hykefuneralhome.com)
Mary “Lucille” Wiedeman was born at home in Athol, SD, on May 8, 1923, to Earl and Mary (Galvin) Wiedeman. She attended country grade school and graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1940. She worked at the Red Owl Store and First National Bank.
Lucille was united in marriage to Leland Strahl on December 18, 1945, at All Saint’s Parish House in Mellette, SD. Lucille and Leland farmed east of Ashton, SD, and moved to Ashton in 1974, where they owned and operated the Ashton Elevator company and Strahl Trucking. In 1997 they retired and moved to Redfield.
Lucille enjoyed cake baking, crocheting afghans, bowling, bingo, and playing cards.
She leaves to mourn her nephews and nieces and their families: David (Sally) Wiedeman, Douglas (D) Wiedeman, Terry (Jennifer) Wiedeman, Nancy (Ralph) Fehlman, Diana (Gary) Nielsen, Penny (John) Newbauer, Cindy Fischer, Kevin (Debbie) Carlson, and cousin Jerry (Dianne) West. She is also survived by ten grand nieces and nephews, and eleven great-grand nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband of 70 years, Leland Strahl; her brothers and their wives: Galvin (Evelyn) Wiedeman and Melvin (Cordalla) Wiedeman, her sister and brother-in-law Carrol and Gus Carlson, her nephew Wayne Carlson and grandnephew Christopher Fehlman, her mother and father-in-law Ben and Emma Strahl.
