Michael "Mick" Twiss, 68, of Sioux Falls, SD and formerly of Redfield, SD, passed away from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) on Friday, September 4, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Mick's final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. Following donation, it was Mick's wish to be cremated.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls with Chaplain Kristi Gullickson officiating.
His memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at the Redfield United Methodist Church in Redfield with Pastor Paul Rowenhorst officiating. Due to Covid-19, the church does require masks to be worn and social distancing guidelines to be followed. The memorial service will be live-streamed to Hyke Funeral Home's website. Shortly before the service, there will be a link below Mick's obituary to click and view. A time for lunch and fellowship will follow the service in the picnic shelter by the walking bridge in the Redfield City Park. Michael “Mick” Myron Twiss was born January 13, 1952 in Huron, SD to J. Gordon and Evelyn (Crane) Twiss. Mick was raised in Doland, SD. He graduated from Doland High School and received a BS in Business from Dakota State University, Madison, SD.
Mick’s business career was in banking. His first job was at F & M Bank in Watertown, SD and he then became a VP and branch manager at United National in Watertown. He was a loan officer and VP at Community First Bank which changed to Bank of the West in Redfield, SD, as well as a business loan officer at Sioux Falls Credit Union in Sioux Falls, SD. Mick finished his career as a bank manager of Great Western Bank in Redfield before retirement in January 2014.
In Mick’s life, he was active in many organizations. He served as the President of the Boys and Girls Club of Watertown during the funding and building of the recreation center in Watertown. He was involved in Kiwanis, Lions Club, Masons, Redfield United Methodist Church, SD Bankers Association, and was President of the Regional Bank Association while in Watertown. He enjoyed playing many sports including racquetball, basketball, track, football, golf, and fishing throughout his life. While a student at Dakota State University, he played football and he was a member of the 1971 team who won the Boot Hill Bowl. It was the first football team in SD history to win a bowl game.
Mick was married to Janet Nelson in 1979 and three children were born to this relationship. He later married Betty Wintersteen Williams and three stepchildren joined him through this marriage.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Betty Twiss, Sioux Falls, SD; two sons: Chad (Cece) Twiss and daughter Amelia, Watertown, SD; and Bryce (Demi) Twiss and their daughter, Emerson, Fargo, ND; one daughter, Michelle (Mike) Meidinger and children, Kendra and Dawson, Watertown, SD; stepson, Ryan (Rashmi) Williams and daughters, Addie and Ellie, Hamel, MN; and stepson, Brent (Ingrid) Williams and daughters, Eliza and Georgia, St. Paul, MN. He is survived by two brothers: Larry (Deb) Twiss, Aberdeen, SD; John (Alison) Twiss, Ham Lake, MN; three sisters: Linda Twiss, Roseville, MN; Maureen Geyerman, West Des Moines, IA; Annette (Jim) Roby, Watertown, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents, J. Gordon and Evelyn (Crane) Twiss; sister, Cheryl (Twiss) Riddel; stepson, Chad Williams; and brother-in-law, Randy Geyerman.
