Rolla Harold Binger, son of Harold “Harry” and Theo (Kenison) Binger, was born October 22, 1929, near Tulare.  He grew up in the Tulare area and graduated from Tulare High School with a class of eight in 1947.

Rolla worked for a short time in Huron, SD before he was drafted into the U.S. Army in November 1951 and served in the Ryukus Command 29th Division in Japan, Okinawa, and Korea.  After his honorable discharge in 1953, he farmed for a short time with his father before he married the love of his life, Elaine Kay Brugger, on September 19, 1957.  They farmed for a short time west of Tulare before buying a farm east of Cottonwood Lake, where they raised their children of three boys and one girl.  In 1982, they moved to Tulare, and Rolla continued to be active in the farming operation until the age of 85, when he fully retired.

Rolla served on the FHA Board, Bank of Wessington Board, and was a director of Spink Electric, now Northern Electric, for 18 years.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to music, camping, fishing with his family and friends, hunting, watching the Minnesota Twins, and following the sporting events of his grandchildren.  He especially enjoyed the opening day of pheasant season that was a tradition for over 40 years.

Rolla was a member of the Tulare United Church, Tulare Lion’s Club, Tulare American Legion, where he was a past commander, and the VFW.

Rolla is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Elaine, of Tulare; children:  Rex (Sherry) Binger of Redfield, Robin (Brett) Jens of Tulare, Patrick (Emily) Binger of Wichita, KS, and Tony (Shelly) Binger of Tulare; one brother Lanny (Jan) Binger of Aberdeen, SD; and sister-in-law Barb Binger of Rapid City, SD.  He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Jennifer, Tanner, Taylor, Stephanie, Ashley, Clay, Paige, Grayson, Zachary, Madison, and Joe;  eight great-grandchildren:  Maci, Renner, Millie, Weston, Blair, Goldie, Luella, Soren, and two more on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Shirley Freese Bradfield and Wanda Dawson; one brother, Clayton Binger; sister-in-law Bonnie Binger; brothers-in-law Kenny Dawson, Edward Freese, Roger Bradfield; and one grandson Ty Jens.
