Cheryl Shelby, 61, was born August 20, 1964, in Santa Clara, CA, to Marilyn Marie Kirouac and Clifton Howe. Cheryl passed away April 10, 2026, at her home, in Redfield, SD.
Cheryl grew up in California, obtaining her Bachelors Degree in Business from Victor Valley College, and working her way up at the San Bernardino County Office, managing several departments. While working there is where she met her best friend, David Shelby.
Cheryl was in the Navy, working at the PX, and was the only woman on a submarine at that time. She travelled to Alaska on the submarine for a training exercise. She discharged from the Navy after 4 years.
When Cheryl and David moved to South Dakota, they didn't know many people but found friends wherever they would go. Cheryl worked at the Eastern Star in Redfield for some time, but most recently was employed at the Senior Center.
Cheryl was a wife, a mom, a grandma, and a friend of many. She loved gardening, and especially after moving to South Dakota, she loved to fill the bird feeder, to watch all of the birds come to her yard. Cheryl loved to go shopping and was the master of finding a bargain. Cheryl loved the song by Pink – Beautiful Trauma, and would dance to it anytime it was played. Cheryl was a sweet soul with a great heart. She will be deeply missed by everyone she's touched.
Cheryl loved her children and grandchildren. She was the proud mom to Shawn Adams, Sara Forsgren, and Madeline Shelby. She was grandma to Ryleigh, Emma, Carter, and Noah.
Grateful for sharing in her life, her husband of 22 years, David, her children, her grandchildren, and siblings Dawna and Dorothy.
Cheryl is preceded in death by both of her parents, and her special fur-baby Draxamilious.
At this time, no services will be held. Cheryl's wishes were to be cremated.
Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield (www.hykefuneralhome.com) has assisted Cheryl's family.
