Urn Vaults
Urn Vaults
Most cemeteries require an urn vault to protect the cremated remains from the weight of the soil and heavy equipment. This outer container helps repel water and prevents the ground from sinking over time. Please be aware that the cemetery sexton must be notified before the inurnment (burial of ashes) to mark the specific grave location. Costs for opening and closing the grave will apply, with potential surcharges for holidays or weekends. Additionally, burial permits must be filed with the sexton, the county, and the State of South Dakota. You may also coordinate through the funeral home for a tent, chairs, or a lowering device for the committal service; please consult your funeral director for current equipment pricing.
